3D Printing Scrap Necklace

I love 3D printing! It is so awesome to take an idea to reality so easily.
But I do not love the waste. We use mainly PLA plastic which is sustainably sourced and biodegradable. But no matter how efficient you try to be, there is always waste and  right now we do not have a way to recycle our scrap PLA.
So I have been experimenting. Cutting up scraps and setting them in resin to make jewelry.
I'm still testing out different techniques. And I obviously can't reuse all my scrap, but it is something.
So now when I make something like this

I can make something like this

Lip Gloss Project

October Is always a busy month, but I still try to really put my all in to birthday parties!
This year Seconda wanted a Paris themed party.

We had a ton of fun activities but my favorite was this lip gloss project. Seconda got the idea from this video by Maqaroon
But I wasn't thrilled with the idea of using Dollar Store lip gloss, so I decided we could make our own. I found an easy recipe for a clear lip gloss from Common Scents Mom Make your own roll on lip gloss

A set of test tubes really streamlined the process for the party. I taped the levels to make my measuring easy. Each tube has
3 teaspoons of Sweet Almond Oil
1 1/2 teaspoons of Vegetable Glycerin
a couple drops of Vitamin E Oil

Holding on to the rubber stoppers, the kids simply shook their test tubes until everything was evenly mixed. Then they transferred the mix to these roll-on lip gloss bottles from Amazon using pipettes.

Each test tube was more than enough to fill 2 lip gloss bottles.
The kids then added their personal touches:
I washed and dried the crystals before adding to the bottles.

These flavored the lip glosses nicely with only a drop or two per bottle.

And last they used washi tape to decorate the outside.
I think the kids really enjoyed this project and getting to take home their unique lip glosses. Using the test tubes and a "no heat" recipe made it very party friendly. And I actually liked the resulting lip gloss enough that I made my own with the leftovers and have been using it.
